Minister listed on Role

World Scout Jamboree

The Minister was inducted to the Roll of Ministers at the General Assembly in the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on May 12th. This is a recognition of his training with the Union of Welsh Independents and of the fact that his ministry is accredited by the Congregational Federation.

In July and August this year, the UK hosted the World Scout jamboree in Celebration of the Centenary of Scouting and the Minister was one of the Scouts at the event. The picture shows the Minister with some of the Pastoral Care Team that looked after the spiritual welfare of adults at the event.

The Church is pleased to announce that Mr John Richards and Mrs Olive Davies were inducted to the office of Deacon at a special service on 3rd June 2007. The Minister presided at the service and the photograph below shows the new Deacons alongside their colleagues

More New Members!

In September, Tony and Gill Morgan were accepted into membership. They have been attending the Church for some time and decided that they should play an active part in the fellowship. In October, Mrs Mair McIntee and Mrs Maureen Rowlands were accepted into membership. Maureen is joining husband Wyndham, a Deacon of many years and Mair comes to us from her mother Church at Longstone. All new members are wished every blessing.

Minister Appointed President The Minister has been appointed as the President of the Free Church Council of Wales, with effect from 12th November 2007. This means he is the spokesperson for all non conforming denominations in Wales and chairs a council meeting made up of representatives from the different free churches. The appointment is for three years.

Whitland Christian Circle The Churches of Whitland have recently formed a group known as the Whitland Christian Circle - Cylch Cristnogol Hendy Gwyn. The constituition is being finalised but the main purpose of the group is to have a small committee that can organise town-wide events and respond as a group of Churches to issues such as natural disasters or terrorism. The first event was the combined carol service in Nazareth on the second Sunday in December. The event was well attended and it is believed this is a good foundation to build on.

Obituary Mrs E. Hughes of North Road, the oldest member of Whitland Congregational Church, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday 18th January 2008. She was 94 years of age. The funeral was held on Thursday 24th January with a family service in the house at 1.30pm followed by a large, well attended public service in the English Cong at 2pm. Mrs Hughes was laid to rest in Soar Cemetery, joining her husband Dan who predeceased her over 14 years ago.

Our Easter Sunday Service was held at 10.30am on 23rd March. It was pleasing to see a good crowd in attendance and the Church welcomed a number of visitors to the Communion Table.

You have to register with Yahoo (just give a few details) and you can access a page where we can exchange messages etc. Almost like an online fellowship.
